당연히 마을의 바람기 심한 사내들이 호시탐탐 잔뜩 눈독을 들이고 있었다
그러나 얼마나 절개가 굳은지 그 누구도 그 과부를 함부로 접근할 수가 없었다.
그러던 어느 날 마을 사랑채에 모인 남자들이 내기를 했다
누구든 먼저 과부를 건드리는 사람한테는 원하는 만큼 술을 사주기로.
막상 내기를 걸었지만 누구 하나 선뜻 시도하는 사람이 없었다.
그때 남의 집 머슴을 사는 칠득이가 나섰다.
사람들은 형색도 초라한 칠득이를 쉽게 믿으려 하지 않았다.
하지만 칠득이는 닷새만 기회를 준다면 자신 있노라고 큰 소리쳤다.
칠득이는 다음날 아침 그 과부의 집을 찾아가서 대문을 두들겼다.
그리고 과부가 대문을 열자 '오입'하고 소리치고는 냅다 도망쳤다.
칠득이의 그런 행동은 그 이튿날도 이어졌고 사흘, 나흘이 지나도록 계속되었다.
드디어 약속한 지 닷새가 되는 날,
칠득이는 마을 남자들을 불러 놓고 자신이
과부를 건드린 증거를 보일테니 숨어서 지켜보라고 했다.
칠득이가 다시 과부 집 대문을 두드렸다.
벌컥 대문이 열리고 과부가 고개를 내밀었다.
순간 숨어서 지켜보던 사람들은 모두 깜짝 놀랐다.
과부가 다음과 같이 말하는 게 아닌가.
"너 또 오입하러 왔지?"
